Directions to the Lion Yard

Just 60 miles north of London, Cambridge is located in the heart of the East of England and excellent road and rail links ensure the city is accessible from all parts of the UK. With London Stansted Airport and the ferry port of Harwich both within easy reach, Europe and the rest of the world isn’t far away either!

By Road

  • From the South & from London, Cambridge is a short trip up the M11 motorway.
  • From the North the A1 and M1 link to the A14 dual carriageway straight to the city.
  • From the East and West, the A14 again takes you to Cambridge.

Park & Ride

Park & Ride allows commuters, coming into Cambridge, to enjoy stress-free travel and beat the queues. It also allows visitors and shoppers to take the direct route to the heart of the city.

There are seven Park & Ride sites in Cambridge which are all open 7 days a week. All the sites are staffed during opening hours. Overnight parking is not permitted at any of the sites. All sites are secured with barriers after the last bus, but they rise to allow traffic to leave after hours. All sites have height barriers except Babraham Road and Trumpington, which are suitable for camper vans, as larger spaces are provided.


There is a free bike park for approximately 500 bikes run by station cycles just outside Grand Arcade on the corner of Corn Exchange Street.

National Express operates coach services to Cambridge from major towns & cities throughout the UK. There are frequent coach services from both Central London and London Stansted Airport.


Cambridge Station is a 20-minute walk or 10-minute bus ride from the city centre. There is a fast and frequent rail service from London King’s Cross & London Liverpool Street through to the City with an approximate journey time of 50 minutes. There are excellent connections from Scotland and the North via Peterborough and regional services from Birmingham & the Midlands, East of England & the Northwest.

Wheelchair and scooter loan services are available from the Shopmobility section within the Grand Arcade car park.

The approach to the Grand Arcade car park is via Silver Street or Trumpington Street. The Grand Arcade car park has 944 spaces including 36 blue badge spaces

New Signs to Help You

If you are driving into Cambridge, traffic signs have been installed to give you updated information on Park and Ride services, car parking and traffic conditions in the city centre.

These signs are located on the city-bound approaches to each Park & Ride site.

As you drive further in the above signs are located across the City Centre. They indicate the direction to each car park and will tell you the number of spaces available, when they are full or if they are closed for any reason.

Use these signs to guide you to your chosen place to park.
